Dear Friend of the Fatherless,
As most of you know, WORLD ORPHANS has been involved in providing grants for the construction of church-based children’s homes in the developing world since 1993. It all began with a $75,000 grant for a local church to build a home for 15 children rescued from the streets of Managua, Nicaragua. Since then, millions of dollars have been invested to see almost 500 homes built in over 50 countries, allowing indigenous (native) churches to rescue many thousands of children.
A lot has changed over the past three years.
WORLD ORPHANS continues to provide family-style residential solutions through indigenous churches. We also facilitate orphan prevention, transition and self-sustainability programs. We are partnering with indigenous churches to help families stay alive and stay together – to stop or delay the orphaning, abandonment or sale of children in the first place – and we are helping extended family to take in children of dead or negligent relatives. Native churches facilitate these programs through home-based care teams.
In addition to family support, our partner churches now work with children coming out of institutionalized care, reaching them during a very vulnerable point in their young lives. These same church partners work with orphaned and abandoned children who have matured to young adulthood. Through micro-finance, mentoring and continuing education programs, they are giving youth the opportunity to break the cycle of poverty and neglect, and to succeed in life as self-supporting adults who have a commitment to the next generation.
Over the past three years, WORLD ORPHANS has developed programs to connect churches here with churches there to see this work done with strength, accountability and resolve. These partnerships offer connection, friendship, support, encouragement, accountability, opportunity and so much more for both churches, in addition to solid financial support for churches doing so much with very little.
What about an individual here who has a heart for the orphan there, who desires to pick up the personal mantle of responsibility for these children?
I am pleased to tell you that we are embarking on a new monthly support program that will enable our dear financial partners, as individuals, to be part of this work. Basically, $44 per month lets individuals - you - help churches to impact the lives of vulnerable children in their communities.
This is not child sponsorship, as such programs take much time, energy and resources to implement and maintain. It is sponsorship by region or country that will allow people here to connect with children there, through native churches that strive to change and transform lives.
Your monthly gift of $44 can help churches (in a country or region that draws your heart) to rescue and care for children. You can be part of a broader work of bringing help and hope to vulnerable children, bringing Christ into communities, and changing lives. You can help the church help children. It’s that simple.
Stay tuned . . .
